| 1980 Friday, November 21 At about 7:00am fire in the downstairs area was spotted by a MGM employee.The result was a flash fire that spread at a rate of 19 feet per second through the casino. 84 people lost their lives in that fire. It was the second worst hotel fire in United States history. $223 million in legal settlements were paid out and a lesson was learned. Las Vegas is now the leader in the world when it comes to fire safety. | |||
